School of Catering and Tourism

Located at the Huadu District Campus with a total area of 204 mu (13.6 hectares), the School of Catering and Tourism was formerly known as Guangdong Trade Vocational Technical School with a history of over 60 years. The School has worked closely with American Wheat Association for more than 30 years. It was honored by China Cuisine Association as an outstanding contributor to talent cultivation in the Chinese catering industry during the 40 years of reform and opening up. Renowned as the “Huangpu Military Academy” in baking industry and the “Cradle of Bakers”, the School has also been recognized by the Ministry of Education as a “High-quality Provincial Teacher Training Base” and as the main developer of two “1+X” Vocational Skill Level Certificates of Cantonese cuisine production and dim sum production. In recent years, the School has carried out long-term and in-depth cooperation with nearly 100 high star-level hotels and leading catering enterprises, and has provided training and technical services for the industries and enterprises. The achievements of the School have been reported by more than 20 media such as China Education News.

The School aims at cultivating high-quality technical and skilled talents for the catering and tourism industry in the Greater Bay Area. Currently, it offers four programs: Culinary Arts and Nutrition, Chinese and Western Pastry Arts, Western Culinary Arts, and Hotel Management and Digital Operations. The School boasts advanced teaching equipment and high level of informatization. It has an integrated production, teaching, and research bakery food processing factory and the “Lingnan Catering Culture Museum” on campus.

Currently, the School has over 1,900 students, with an employment rate of over 98%. It has a strong team of double-titled teachers, including ten with senior professional titles, 24 senior technicians, one expert enjoying State Council Special Allowance, four Outstanding Teachers and two Outstanding Education Workers in South China, one provincial Excellent Youth League Cadre, four Chinese Culinary Masters, two National Technical Experts, four Guangdong Technical Experts, six referees and chief referees in domestic competitions, and four foreign experts.
